Cold Beers and Cheeseburgers in Ahwatukee

We are so excited!  We have a few favorite beer and a burger joints in the area BUT none with such an extensive beer list.  Matt and I are IPA fans and there isn't always a decent IPA selection depending on where you go so we were excited to see such selection here. 

The atmosphere is great.  The walls are plastered with big flat screens so watching the game should not be a problem no matter where you are sitting.  There is also a decent sized patio for outdoor seating. 

The menu is comparable to most brewery type restaurants with an obvious emphasis on burgers.  

Our 5 year old was pleased with the crayons and coloring page he was offered as soon as we sat down.  As a parent, we always appreciate when a restaurant provides a little child entertainment.  

The #LamFam will return and this place may even make it to the list of favorite Ahwatukee restaurants!

The Whining Pig in Ahwatukee

While waiting our turn for a haircut a few doors down, we decided to stroll into the Whining Pig  and we were not disappointed. 

The bar is spacious but cozy with more craft beer on tap than you can imagine, cute shirts for sale and a variety of sandwiches and meat and cheese plates to choose from for a quick bite while you sample the best local beers the area has to offer. 

There are a few games laying around and also a chalkboard wall to keep the kiddos occupied. 

It's a great place to unwind at the end of the day, take a quick break during your shopping trip or pop in for a cold one on a lazy Saturday.

Gentleman Joe's Barber Shop in Ahwatukee is Kid Friendly!

Our little guy is getting so big!  He's finally five and wanting all those cool haircuts like the fade, mohawk and lightening bolts shaved on the sides.  We quickly realized that it's time for a trip to the barber and he's finally grown out of his normal kids salon. 

We had a great experience at Gentleman Joe's Barber Shop (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Gentleman-Joes/214635838576480) !  We didn't wait a minute longer than they told us we'd have to wait and the service was efficient, quality and with a smile.  Our five-year-old had a blast and got a great haircut that he was very proud of.

The Ahwatukee Farmers Market

Katie the Ahwatukee MOM here!  I am so excited that Ahwatukee has a great Farmers Market .  Each Sunday the boys and I grab breakfast either at home or at an awesome Ahwatukee breakfast location like the Hillside Spot Cafe, The Nosh Cafe or Snooze and then we head to the Farmers market. 

There is a solo musician providing awesome music for shoppers and a playground available to entertain the littles which is PERFECT!!  In the time it takes for one of us to shop the market and grab some farm fresh meat, fresh fruit and veggies and the best tamales ever, the little guy has had a chance to tire himself out at the playground. We usually time it perfectly so that, when we arrive home from the market, it's nap time 😊.

March Into Spring Event & Chili Cook-off in Ahwatukee

Weekend of March 9 & 10

Ahwatukee had a busy weekend not only was the Chili Cook-off a huge was a success. The 15th Annual Chili Cook-Off Festival was held at Ahwatukee Park, 4700 E. Warner Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85044. Chili Cooks from all over the United States gathered to complete in Red Chili, Chili Verde, Homestyle Chili, and Vegetarian Chili. The 1st place winner in each category will qualify to cook at the International Chili Society World Championships in October. A live band performed on Saturday afternoon and a wide variety of food, beer, and wine was available on Saturday and Sunday.

Also, the March Into Spring Event was held at Dream Dinners Ahwatukee at 3820 E Ray Rd Plaza. Plaza merchants including the new Fred Astaire Dance Studio there was crafts, and vendors like Pawsitive Impressions, Cuties Lemonade  and Buzzed Goat Coffee.

Moving to Ahwatukee Custom Estates

When the time is right (especially since we just moved) the #LamFam will be moving to Ahwatukee Custom Estates.  

I've been in love with this neighborhood since 2004, the year I moved to Arizona from New Hampshire.  It has the most beautiful selection of custom homes with no two exactly the same.  The lots are large and the mountain views from any part of the neighborhood are stunning.  The location is very convenient, close to the 10, the 202 and within minutes of excellent restaurants, lots of shopping and miles and miles of breathtaking hiking and biking trails in the South Mountain Preserve.

The Ahwatukee Children’s Theatre 2018 - The Christmas Carol Held at The Salvation Army Kroc Center

2018 was the 16th year for the crew and they did an amazing job. Such a great family friendly show. The show opened on Dec 21st and they did 3 performances.

Ahwatukee Children's Theatre (ACT) provides local children and adults education in, appreciation for and opportunities to participate in all aspects of the performing arts, as well as offering family-friendly entertainment to the community at large.

They are accepting new registration in January, 2019!

Does your child love to sing and dance?  Are they natural performers? Would you like to foster and support that love and talent?  Then the All Keyed Up Show Choir is for you!

This group may perform at local community events during the semester.

There may be solo opportunities in both singing and dancing.

It’s a MUST TAKE for those children who strive to get into our upper level middle and high school show choirs.

Kachina and Taxidea's Awesome Christmas Light Display in Ahwatukee!

Dinner and a drive to these two awesome Christmas light displays in Ahwatukee made the perfect family evening. We began at Uncle Bear’s, one of our favorite beer and burger spots, grabbed ice cream after at Zoyo’s and then set out to find the two most famous Christmas light displays in the area.

Both displays are free to the public to visit, easy to find and the kids will absolutely love them. I highly recommend a visit!

We LOVED Tukee’s Got Talent 2018!

Kyrene De Los Cerritos School hosted the 2018 Tukee's Got Talent on November 17th! There was SO MUCH talent, not to mention this young pianist and this graceful dancer.

Tickets were sold for the event with all proceeds benefiting the JDRF Arizona Chapter.

Ahwatukee Eats 2018

The boys and I had an amazing time at the Ahwatukee Eats event this past weekend.  There was a cool petting zoo offered by Carters Farm Mobile Petting Zoo and Ponies.  The kids were stoked to hang out with the animals and the parents were pleased too because admission was free.  

There were a ton of trucks at the event.  We enjoyed a great meal from The Lemongrass Shack and The Scookie Bar .  Dinner was Cambodian street food and desert was a peanut butter cookie with chocolate ice cream, Oreo topping and strawberry sauce, yep, it was custom built to suite and to die for.  😍😍

This year the event is to benefit the AZ Department of Child Safety in their work with foster children and families. 

There's so much to do in our little mountainside town, we are truly enjoying our life here and couldn't be happier with our decision to buy our Ahwatukee home.  We are looking forward to the Ahwatukee Foothills Festival of Lights next!

Telegraph Pass, a great family Hike in Ahwatukee!

Telegraph Pass is a great family friendly hike in Ahwatukee. There is a good amount of parking in the parking lot at the trail head along with a picnic table, a covered area and some porta potties.

It’s approximately 2.2 miles from the trailhead to the Summit Road and back. The trail is moderate in some spots, it becomes rocky and a little steep in a few areas but my 4 year old and his friends did just fine. Just expect a few extra stops and some snack breaks for the littles.

There is a bench up on the Summit Road and it’s a great spot to relax and enjoy the stunning views of #Ahwatukee.

There is a spot in the Telegraph Pass trail that crosses the Desert Classic Trail which is about 8.8 miles long. It’s a little more flat and a bit easier but there are several mountain bikers that frequent this trail so you have to keep an eye out especially with the kids. We accessed the Desert Classic Trail this last time we went and followed it for about a mile or so. It was a great hike for the kids and there were awesome homes that back the preserve to admire.

There’s very little shade so wear hats, bring plenty of sunscreen and water. Hiking footwear is recommended especially for Telegraph Pass.

Dogs are allowed on both trails but you must pick up after them and keep them leashed at all times.

Family Friendly Paved Bike Path in Ahwatukee

We made an amazing discovery!! There is a wonderful little bike path that was perfect for our family bike ride. I know we didn’t follow the entire path this time around which is really exciting because it’ll be fun to go back out and explore the entire thing!

My most favorite things about this paved trail is that it’s an easy ride and wide enough for the trailer that my son rides in. It brings us through Sun Ray Park which has an awesome hiking area!

The trail also leads to Chandler Blvd which has awesome restaurants like Pomegranate Cafe, CK’s and Early Baker . There are definitely more but those are a few of my favorites.

This is a pic of our ride! We each have a bike. My husband has the trailer attached to his bike. We carry a back pack with a water bladder for water, our son carries his own water in the trailer and we have a small speaker that works on blue tooth that for tunes while we ride! The set-up is easy and perfect.

We are still very much in love with this area and the fun outdoor opportunities it offers. We’ve been Ahwatukee residents for 6 months now and we are super excited that the weather has cooled so we can begin to explore all the details of our area.
